A Farewell Message From Our President

January 5, 2024 8:31 pm

Dear Colleagues and Friends of the CMA,   My term as president comes to a close, and a new president will take over. Two years have passed quickly, and it has been a whirlwind as we responded to the ever-evolving ideas and spiritual threats within our culture. The three initiatives we had two years ago were to support individual members, develop national strategic partnerships, and strengthen international relations. Upon reflection, I am astounded at the things we accomplished in all three areas. I have repeatedly seen the Holy Spirit at work to guide us as an organization. President Dr. Craig... View Article

Real Alternatives: When Failure is Not an Option

January 5, 2024 8:31 pm

By Kevin I. Bagatta, Esq. In early August, CMA reported the radical news that Governor Josh Shapiro took the unprecedented move to terminate the highly successful 28-year-old Pennsylvania Pregnancy and Parenting Support Program created and administered by the charitable nonprofit, Real Alternatives. Just two days after being sworn in, Governor Shapiro met with Planned Parenthood advocates during which they insisted the Governor end funding to the program. He has chosen to give in to their radical demand despite the fact that the people, the Legislature, and six previous governors have strongly supported the program for almost three decades. By Fr. Christopher Kubat, M.D Merry Christmas and Christmas Season! In the 23rd chapter of the book of the prophet Jeremiah we read, “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch …. when men will no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,’ but as the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of the north country and out of all of countries where he had driven them.’ Then they shall dwell... Embers December Newsletter

January 5, 2024 8:31 pm

With no room in the inn, St. Joseph found a secluded spot in Bethlehem, away from curious eyes, for the Blessed Mother to give birth to the Messiah in a stable used by animals. Christ’s divinity was first revealed by angels to humble, poor shepherds and their families. We suggest meditating on the humility and poverty of Jesus Christ this Advent as we cry out, “Oh God we need You! Do not forsake us!” Our theme for this month is Perseverance Under Persecution. Today our Jewish brothers and sisters are suffering terrible persecution. The barbarism shown against innocent... View Article

What Imago Dei Means for Treatment of Addiction

January 5, 2024 8:31 pm

By Dr. David Galbis-Reig, DFASAM As an internal medicine physician with a subspecialty in addiction medicine, other colleagues, patients, and family members of patients have often asked me, “Why did you choose to become an ‘addiction doctor’?” My response is quite simple: I want to free people from the shackles that prevent them from experiencing a relationship with those who love them, and most importantly, with the God who created them. Spirituality is an important part of recovery from addiction, and while it does not always take the form of Catholicism, the journey to recovering must involve some form of... View Article
