By Nadia Smith A coalition of healthcare professionals and advocacy groups is calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to strengthen safety warnings for estrogen use in adolescent and young adult males, as part of a broader push to reevaluate ‘”gender affirming” medical interventions. The effort stems from a citizen petition filed earlier this year, which requests that the FDA require a “Black Box Warning”—the agency’s most serious safety alert—on estrogen products prescribed to boys and young males. We honor St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary (March 19), who never hesitated to follow the will of God. Our theme this month is Be Not Afraid as we strive to fulfill the will of God in our lives. With the overturning of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in 2022, many pro-lifers thought that abortion rates were certain to plummet from that point forward. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. While surgical abortions have certainly decreased in frequency, chemical abortions (through the use of the so-called “morning after pill”) have drastically increased. By Dr. Ellen Dailor Over the first weekend of February, Catholic medical missionaries convened at the Our Lady of Florida Spiritual Center in Palm Beach, Florida, for a transformative retreat. Thirteen missionaries, representing diverse regions across the United States and Guatemala, gathered for the retreat and currently serve in various capacities both long-term and short-term in Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Uganda, and the Bronx. Our theme for the month of February is The Power of Prayer in Healing as we recall the 18 visits of Our Lady of Lourdes (Feb. 11) to young Bernadette in 1858, where she encouraged the daily Rosary and left a healing spring. The true miracle of Lourdes is not only the physical cures, but the spiritual miracles that occur there.
