May Newsletter

May 20, 2024 5:27 pm

The Church dedicates the month of May to Our Blessed Mother and we have selected the theme, God’s Transforming Grace, for this month. It is often through the intercession of Our Lady that we come to her Son, Jesus Christ, especially through daily recitation of the Rosary, which she requested as Our Lady of Fatima (May 13). She has made Fifteen Promises associated with the Rosary found here. We suggest reading Meet Your Mother by Mark Miravalle and The Glories of Mary by St. Alphonsus Ligouri to grow closer to Our Lady.

St. Joseph the Worker is honored on May 1 and this is the encyclical on the value of human work by Pope St. John Paul II. The Ascension of the Lord will be celebrated on Mother’s Day (May 12) in most dioceses, followed by Pentecost Sunday (May 19).

The next Thomistic Institute’s Aquinas 101 topic is Substance and Accidents.

It is not too late to register for the Catholic Men Physicians’ Retreat

May 16-19, at Bethany Retreat Center in Dickson, TN. To register, contact Dr. Steve White at rswmd52@gmail.com.

The CMA Prayer Group will meet Saturday, May 11 at 2:00 PM EDT via Zoom on its second anniversary. Come pray with us!

The 12th Annual Sacred Liturgy Conference is June 4 – 7 in Ferndale, California. The theme is The Church on Fire in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Register here for this beautiful conference. The 93rd Annual Educational Conference Imago Dei: Made in His Image, Male and Female He Created Them, will be held in Orlando, Fla. Sept. 5 -7. Register here.

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity is May 26. “The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in Himself” (CCC 234).

All too often in today’s world, man declares himself the author and arbiter of life. The Church has the truth about married love, revealed by Jesus Christ, and the intrinsic value of every human life from conception to natural death. Many Catholics today do not understand the Church’s teachings on the assisted reproductive technologies. We encourage you to read the CDF’s 2008 document, Dignitatis Personae.

In the Diary of St. Maria Faustina H. Kowalska, she wrote that God’s greatest attribute is His Mercy. As we are made in His likeness and image, try on a daily basis to extend some small mercy –– whether it is avoiding a criticism or giving a compliment. You may find that habit is transformative for you as well as the other person.

The Knights of Columbus have put out this important film on The Face of Mercy.

We also suggest the books, Trusting God in the Present by Fr. Jacques Philippe and The Shroud of Jesus by Dr. Gilbert Lavoie.

A longtime member of the FIRE committee, Dr. Kevin Murrell, died April 12. Kevin was a past president of the CMA, represented us with FIAMC for many years and exemplified a Catholic physician transformed by grace. May his soul, and all the souls of the faithfully departed CMA members, rest in peace.
