July Newsletter
July 16, 2024 1:41 am
July is the Month of the Precious Blood, instituted as a feast in 1849 by Pope Pius IX. To enter more deeply into this devotion, read this reflection, an excerpt from Father John Hardon, S.J. and others on this important feast. We suggest reading the little treasure, Devotion to the Precious Blood (TAN) by the Benedictine Convent of Clyde, Missouri. In keeping with greater devotion to the Precious Blood, we also invite you to pray for all those who will be participating in the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis on July 17-21 and for those participating in the nationwide Eucharistic pilgrimages leading up to it. If you are attending, stop by the CMA booth. The last national congress was in 1941 and this will be the 10th in our history, although some dioceses, such as Atlanta, have held annual Eucharistic congresses for many years. Ask yourself, “Do I really believe Jesus is present in the Eucharist?”
Our artwork this month depicts Jesus healing the sick. The Church continued this ministry by caring for the sick and establishing the first hospitals. However, changes in medicine and personal experiences have led to physician burnout leaving many as The Wounded Healer. Henri J. M. Nouwen’s book by the same title is considered one of the top 100 religious books of the 20th century. Fr. Shawn Monahan, OVM has a helpful 10-part video series on the Path of Healing our Broken Hearts.
The next Thomistic Institute’s Aquinas 101 video is Teleology (Aquinas 101).
The CMA’s ZOOM Prayer Group will meet Saturday, July 13 at 2:00 PM EDT. Come pray with us next Saturday here.
Saints we would like to highlight this month include the Martyr Saints of China, St. Augustine Zhao Rong, Priest and his companions (July 9), canonized in 2000 by Pope St. John Paul II. They ranged in age from 9 to 72 and died for the faith between 1648 and 1930.
There also are saints who were soldiers and became priests including St. Camillus de Lellis (July 18) and St. Ignatius Loyola (July 31). Both founded religious orders after experiencing woundedness. Today the wounds of war are being felt throughout the Middle East and Ukraine. Please include prayers for peace throughout the world in your daily devotions.
Lastly, St. James the Apostle (July 25), also known as “the Greater,” was the first apostle martyred for the Faith. He was beheaded by the order of Herod of Agrippa in Jerusalem in 44 AD, and his remains were taken to Santiago de Compostale, Spain, where they are venerated today. Many of our members have made the penitential walk on the Camino de Santiago, depicted in the movie, The Way. Several from Colorado will be making that journey in early September, atoning for the sins in their state. Please keep them in your prayers!
Our 93rd Annual Educational Conference will bring participants together for three days of formation, friendship and prayer. Come join us Sept. 5-7 in Orlando at the Caribe Royale Orlando for Imago Dei, Made in His Image: Male and Female He Created Them. Register here.
