I am the Truth

When the Divine Physician was confronted by Pilate, the King of the Universe was asked, ”Are you a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.” Pilate, who was staring truth in the eyes asked, “What is truth?” (John 18:37-38) Jesus Himself said, “I am the way, the truth and the life?” (John 14:6) All of the attributes of God are part of His essence. God does not just have truth, He is truth, mercy, justice and love.

From Sunday evening June 22, to Saturday evening June 28, the Catholic Medical Association held its annual Medical Student and Resident Boot Camp at St. Mary on the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. During the week, students were taught the truth regarding the challenging medical ethical issues of today, including medical care at the beginning and end of life, the proper treatment of infertility and gender dysphoria, and other challenging issues.

              The most distinguished guest was the Divine Doctor, Jesus Christ. Each day was started with the recitation of the Rosary, morning prayer and the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. In addition, there were scheduled times for spiritual direction, confession and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Then on Friday June 27, there was a procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the lake and back. It was a powerful moment for everyone who participated.

              In addition to the spiritual and intellectual benefits, one of the female students related that it was wonderful she was able to sit a table and to carry on an intelligent conversation with the other students and none of them were on their smart phones. How refreshing!

              It was a powerful experience not only for the students but also for those who gave talks and the other doctors and board members, who were there for the Leadership Training Meeting. And let us not forget the staff members of the CMA. Their help was invaluable and essential for without them, this week would have been impossible. I would like to thank the CMA staff, clergy, medical students and young physicians who attended. Thanks also to Bishop James Conley, our Episcopal Advisor, who was with us as well.

              Never forget, Jesus is the truth and Truth Incarnate said, “The truth will set you free.” (John 8:32). Jesus the Divine Physician, have mercy on us! Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us! All of the patron saints of the many guilds of the CMA, pray for us!
