CMA Health Care Policy Notes

November 7, 2024
As Chair of the Healthcare Policy Committee, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, steadfast dedication, and advocacy. Together, we have lifted up the sanctity of life, the importance of authentically Catholic health care, conscience rights, and religious liberty in both prayer and action. Your commitment has been instrumental in championing these values in every corner of the medical field. With the recent election results, we feel encouraged that the principles we hold dear will once again receive national focus. CMA has had a longstanding and collaborative role with the Trump Administration on many of the issues essential to Catholic health care.

Every four years, a precautionary note is proclaimed by presidential campaigns: “This is the most important election of your life!”. Of course, hyperbole is standard fare in politics, but for this year’s election, that statement is distressingly accurate. The results are very important, but not only to us today. The 2024 election will have a multigenerational impact for those who come after us. However, the most troubling question is whether or not they will be allowed to come after us.

On November 5th, voters in ten states will face a choice that is truly a matter of life and death. Measures intent on expanding abortions in those states will be on the ballot. If approved, the absence of restrictions on abortion will result in an ever-increasing loss of unborn lives. In addition, the potential institution of pro-life laws would be severely compromised, if not impossible. (Information regarding each state’s proposal can be found below.)
