Embers April 2025

April 11, 2025 2:45 am

As we experience the Easter Triduum and celebrate Easter Sunday (April 20), we propose the theme for this month to be Sacrificing for the Unity of the Church. We suggest meditating on John 17, Jesus’ prayer at the Last Supper, where Jesus said, “I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.” We also suggest offering sacrifices during... A Jubilee of Hope for Medicine

April 10, 2025 9:41 pm

By Michelle Stanford, M.D. What a gift we have as Catholics to participate in the Jubilee of Hope this year! Medicine can benefit from this Jubilee.  As George Weigel points out in The Catholic World Report: “American medicine and American medical education are in need of serious reform. Getting the federal government’s healthcare agencies out of the DEI swamps and the gender-fluidity wilderness is only a start, welcome as that is. American medicine needs to rediscover its soul and its conscience. Well-catechized Catholic medical professionals are uniquely equipped to aid in that rediscovery. The Catholic Medical Association has a considerable role to... View Article

The Right Medicine

April 9, 2025 6:40 pm

By Fr. Christopher Kubat, M.D. In the 47th chapter of the book of the prophet Ezekiel, the prophet saw a vision of water flowing out of the threshold of the temple toward the east. As he walked and walked, the flow of water became deeper and deeper until it became a large river. Along the shore were many trees bearing fruit every month, in season and out of season. Some of the fruit was used for medicine.               What does this all mean? This prefigured greater things to come centuries later. The temple is Jesus Christ and out of his... View Article

The Tempter vs the Savior

March 9, 2025 3:44 pm

By Fr. Christopher Kubat, M.D. God is the creator of things visible and invisible. What is visible is obvious to our eyes such as the celestial bodies in the sky, plants and animals and so on. The most precious thing in the visible word is human life. Why? Because we were created by God in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:27) and that the Son of God became one of us to save us from our sins. Uncreated things in the invisible realm are the angels, which are made up of nine choirs: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominions, Virtues, Powers, Principalities,... View Article
