August Newsletter
August 21, 2024 4:25 am
We are one month away from our Annual Educational Conference at the Caribe Royale Orlando, September 5-7, 2024. It is not too late to register, so go here to view the speakers and register. Come join us!
In keeping with the theme for this year’s conference, the FIRE committee chose the theme The Image of God Made Visible Through Mary for August. The Blessed Mother provided the body and made visible the face of Our Lord to mankind. She was the first “monstrance” carrying Our Lord, the Ark of the New Covenant. As she said in her Magnificat, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord.” (Lk 1:46-55)
The Transfiguration of Our Lord (Aug. 6) is a time to meditate on this event in the life of Christ, when He revealed His glory to Peter, James and John, preparing them for what He was to suffer for our redemption. Pope Benedict XVI gave a short meditation on its significance in 2012.
There are several feasts honoring Our Lady in August, including The Assumption of Mary (Aug. 15), which is a Holy Day of Obligation, The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Aug. 22), established by Pope Pius XII in 1954, and Our Lady of Czestochowa (Aug. 26).
To add to your Marian library, we recommend
• The Glories of Mary by St. Alphonsus Ligouri
• Manual for Marian Devotion (TAN Books)
• The World’s First Love by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
• Hail, Holy Queen by Scott Hahn.
This month’s Aquinas 101 short video is Primary and Secondary Causality. We encourage you to take a few minutes each month to learn about St. Thomas Aquinas’ teachings with the Thomistic Institute.
The next CMA ZOOM Prayer Group will be August 10 at 2:00 PM EDT. Come pray with us! Join here the day of the prayer group and wait for the window to open to let you in.
We also would like to highlight St. Bernard, Abbot and Doctor of the Church (Aug. 20), who lived from 1090 to 1153. We invite all our members to pray the Memorare, which St. Bernard composed, from now through the election in November, as well as to offer up a sacrifice each Saturday.
The election outcomes are critical for our ability to practice medicine as Catholics. In addition, thirteen states have a referendum on the ballot to expand abortion seen here. You can still join Cardinal Raymond Burke’s nine-month Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe for our country here.
We know the power of intercession through the example of the years of prayer of St. Monica (Aug. 27) for her son, St. Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church (Aug. 28). In the words of Our Lord: “And He said to them, ‘This one cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting.’” (Mark 9:29 RSV)
